Congress Ratings Improve: 26% Say Good or Excellent
Friday, May 18, 2007

Twenty-six percent (26%) of American voters believe that Congress is doing a
good or an excellent job. That's a six point improvement over the past month
and reflects that most positive rating for the legislative body in 2007. The
latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 30% give
Congress a "fair" rating while 43% say poor. A separate survey found that
Democrats have an 11-point advantage on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The last rating for the outgoing Republican Congress found that just 11%
gave the GOP-controlled chamber a good or excellent rating. The first survey
after the Democrats took control found 16% giving Nancy Pelosi and Harry
Reid's team good or excellent marks (see history).

Among Democratic voters, 35% say Congress is doing a good or an excellent
job. Thirty-nine percent (39%) say fair and 25% give their team a poor
rating. Republicans, not surprisingly, have a less generous assessment-61%
of GOP voters say Congress is doing a poor job.

Overall, just 10% of Americans say it's Very Likely that Congress will
seriously address the important issues facing the nation this year. Another
34% say it is Somewhat Likely that Congress will do so. Most (54%) say
Congress is Not Very Likely or Not at All Likely to address the important
issues before us. Those figures have changed little since Election 2006.

Seventy-two percent (72%) of American voters believe that Members of
Congress are primarily interested in their own careers. Just 15% believe the
legislators are primarily interested in helping people. Those figures have
changed little over the past seven months.

The Supreme Court does a bit better than Congress-42% say the Justices are
doing a good or an excellent job. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say fair and
20% poor. The Court gets good or excellent ratings from 49% of Republicans,
39% of Democrats, and 35% of those not affiliated with either major party.

President Bush's Job Approval is measured on a daily basis and is currently
at the lowest levels of his Administration.

Rasmussen Reports regularly tracks public attitudes towards Congress, the
War on Terror, and other topics. Rasmussen Reports also continuously updates
favorability ratings and general election match-ups for all Democratic and
Republican Presidential candidates along with ratings for Members of
Congress, Other Political Figures, and Journalists.

Rasmussen Reports also conducts ongoing surveys measuring the attitudes of
Americans on the news of the day including gun control, partial-birth
abortion, and Iraq. The latest updates can be found on the Rasmussen Reports
home page.

Rasmussen Reports releases updated polling data on the Democrat Nomination
Process every Monday and on the Republican contest every Tuesday. Results
for the Generic Congressional Ballot are updated monthly.

The Rasmussen Reports ElectionEdgeT Premium Service for Election 2008 offers
the most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a
Presidential election.

Rasmussen Reports' Election 2006 coverage has been praised for its accuracy
and reliability. Michael Barone, Senior Writer for U.S. News & World Report
and co-author of The Almanac of American Politics, mentions, "One clear
lesson from the Republican victory of 2004 and the Democratic victory of
2006 is that the best place to look for polls that are spot on is
RasmussenReports.com." And University of Virginia Professor Larry Sabato
states, "In election campaigns, I've learned to look for the Rasmussen
results. In my experience, they are right on the money. There is no question
Rasmussen produces some of the most accurate and reliable polls in the
country today."

Rasmussen Reports was also the nation's most accurate polling firm during
the 2004 Presidential election and the only one to project both Bush and
Kerry's vote total within half a percentage point of the actual outcome.

During both Election 2004 and Election 2006, RasmussenReports.com was the
top-ranked public opinion research site on the web. We had twice as many
visitors as our nearest competitor and nearly as many as all competitors
combined.

Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, has been an independent
pollster for more than a decade.

GOP Congress at 11% eh? So the Dem congress has a 15 point approval
advantage over the outgoing GOP congress ... that's pretty good...

Do you ever READ the shit you post EMU?

From the very same Rasmussen...

s/president_bush_job_approval

Thirty-four percent (34%) of Americans approve of the way that George W.
Bush is performing his role as President. Just 14% Strongly Approve.
Both figures are just a single percentage points above the lowest level
ever recorded in the Bush Administration.

This marks the eighth straight day that the President’s Job Approval has
been at 35% or below. Prior to this past week, the President’s ratings
had never dipped below the 35% mark and had only fallen to 35% for a day
or two at a time. He now earns approval from 37% of men and 32% of
women. Just 68% of Republicans voice their Approval.

The President’s difficulties are harming the Republican Party as well.
Currently, Democrats are trusted more than Republicans on all ten key
issues tracked regularly by Rasmussen Reports. This includes issues
traditionally dominated by Republicans such as National Security and
Taxes.

NO congress in living memory has EVER gotten anywhere close to a 50%
good/excellent rating you ridiculous moron...

26% good/excellent added to the 31% who think they are doing a FAIR job
comes to 57%.

But if you want to just include "excellent" then "the commander guy",
your little hero's numbers, stand at 14% which is the same number that
believe Elvis is still alive (by some cosmic coincidence).
