America's foremost populist radio show interviews former Luftwaffe
fighter pilot
by James Edwards (pictured)
Lt. Gottfried Dulias was an "ace" by American standards and was one of
a tiny minority German POWs who survived the notorious gulags of the
Soviet Union. He was our guest Tuesday night for the entire hour as we
made his unedited story available to our listening audience.
Offered here is a critique of the interview written by a member of the
staff of the Political Cesspool:
"My two years of co-hosting The Political Cesspool have elicited many
sentiments and visceral reactions in me. I've enjoyed many a belly
laugh, and I've been mad as hell. I've been inspired and I've been
discouraged. Through it all, I've always been proud of the work we do
on The Political Cesspool, proud of the causes we've advanced, proud
of the guests we've interviewed and the friends we've made. But never
have I been more proud to be a part of The Political Cesspool as I was
on the evening of March 6, 2007, when my colleagues James Edwards and
Eddie 'The Bombardier' Miller interviewed former Luftwaffe fighter
pilot Lt. Gottfried Dulias.
I was working on a project in my woodshop when the conversation began,
but I quickly stopped working so I could hear every word. When it was
over, I felt grand, ennobled, like I was somehow a better person. And
I wasn't even involved in the interview! How was it that I felt that
way? I think it happened for at least two reasons. First, it was
happening on The Political Cesspool, the show that I co-host. I can't
imagine any other media outlet giving a former Luftwaffe fighter pilot
the respect of a live interview that couldn't be edited to fit the
agreed-upon lie that passes for the approved version of history.
Second, I was listening to living history. I was hearing the
unvarnished and unedited words from 'the other side' of the story from
the man who was there. I was hearing a gentleman, a patriot, a man --
not a sham -- but a real man. His talk was magnetic, precisely because
his side of the story has been denied us, like gulag prisoners being
denied nutritious food, and we've instead been force-fed a reeking
gruel of one-sided propaganda. His story was powerful without the
assistance of inflated numbers, analogies and adjectives that tried to
out-horrify the previous ones, and a fifty year old successful agenda
of obloquy and falsehood.
We've all seen the pictures and file footage of the SA and the SS in
action. We've all seen the standard grotesque caricature of the German
political establishment of those days. We've all observed the
continued efforts to make every German citizen a partaker of the
mountain guilt and odium that has been synthesized by professional
hatemongers. The sad truth is, the efforts have been so successful
that many people, upon meeting a German man or woman of a more
advanced age, are suspicious at best and bigoted at worst: 'Hmmm. . .I
wonder what he did during the war. . concentration camp guard,
perhaps?' Or,'Maybe she was a secretary in the SS.' And many of us
have felt that there was something wrong, terribly wrong, in all of
it. Most of us don't like to be suspicious of other people and most of
us don't like to think the worst of other people, for doing so
diminishes us and makes us small, petty, bitter, and mean. It's a
sentiment that has a voracious appetite, feeding upon itself even
while it consumes the person it holds in its power. And it reproduces
itself, giving birth to unwarranted fear and blind hatred. And it is
always based upon lies
All of this answers my question of how the interview with Lt.
Gottfried Dulias made me proud. It was carried out by men with whom I
am closely associated. It served my need to know the whole story.
Finally, in providing a stark comparison, it appealed to my better
nature. On the one hand, there are cultural Marxists and
neo-Trotskyites -- predacious, paranoid, destructive, inhumane,
constantly coiled like vipers, who would see in Lt. Dulias nothing
more than material with which to foment hatred and raise money. And on
the other hand, there is Lt. Dulias, cheerful, lively, humorous,
unembittered, and human, bridging generations and giving us a more
complete picture of a defining event in world history. How could I not
feel proud at the end of that hour?"
