|

In a free-for-all forum like Yahoo News used to be, wingnuts regularly
got trounced for all to see.
Free Republic offers them protection from dissenting points of view.
They are like children in a playpen, afraid to go outside and play with
the other kids. |

Actually, seems like many rightnut sites censor opposing viewpoints.
I wanted to join in discussions at "little green snotrags" and "lucienne"
but both refused new registrations. They're so chickenshit fragile
they can't face up to the thought that they're ideas don't stand up
to argument. |

I came across the following thread on FR. The opening post brings up the
decline in activity of the major wingnut forums, including little green
snotrags. The poster included a striking chart. The beginning of the
decline starting in early 2006 correlates with these events, among others:
1. The Abramoff scandal
2. Iran's nuclear program
3. The Muhammad cartoons controversy
4. The Dubai Ports World controversy
5. The NSA Spying Controversy
6. Formation of a new Iraqi government
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2006
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_2006
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_2006
I agree with you that the decline in activity came about as a result of
the expulsion of those who did not toe the party line of the these sites
and the disillusionment of many of those who did, especially concerning
Bush's maniacal insistence on turning over major US port operations to
the Emir of Dubai.
What's Happening to Conservative Websites?

I have diligently watched the rise in size and influence of conservative
websites, including Free Republic, over the last 7-8 years. I have been
shocked and concerned over the drop in traffic at the most popular ones
over the last year or so. There was good growth up until 2006 but since
then there has been a steady downtrend that would crash any other market.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? I'm out of explanations.
The deficiencies in alexa.com are noted, but even if the numbers aren't
accurate you're still comparing off numbers to off numbers so the
decline is consistent.
